Setup Guide

Install the Blute avatar overlay in OBS

Blute is a streaming avatar overlay you add to an OBS browser source — just paste one link. This single page walks you through everything: connect → install in OBS → test → customize → viewer participation. Even if it's your first time, characters will be walking on your screen in about 5 minutes.

01 What is Blute

Blute puts small characters (avatars) that walk across the top of your stream and react — with speech bubbles and motion — to chat, donation and subscription events from YouTube, Twitch and Chzzk. When a viewer types in chat, their character appears on screen and pops a bubble; when a donation comes in, a celebration plays.

It turns a static stream into something alive, and viewers chat more because "my character shows up on screen." Settings save automatically in your browser, and OBS only needs one overlay link — no separate software to install.

Important — Blute only visually displays donation and subscription events from streaming platforms. It does not receive or intermediate donations. Actual donations happen on YouTube, Twitch and Chzzk themselves.

02 Before you start

An account is not required. Free features work with no login; you only connect (log in) when you want to keep your settings across multiple devices.

03 Connect your platform

Open the streamer app and pick a platform under Connect. Each platform connects a little differently.

Twitch — channel name only

Just enter your channel name and it connects. No login needed, so it's the simplest — try Twitch first if you're new.

YouTube — sign in with your account

Click "Sign in with YouTube" and Blute automatically finds your ongoing live broadcast and connects to its chat. Connect while your stream is live.

Chzzk — paste the channel URL

Paste your live Chzzk channel URL and click connect.

Several platforms at once? Connecting YouTube, Twitch and Chzzk together into one merged OBS link is a Blute +Plus feature. The free plan connects one platform at a time.

04 Add the overlay to OBS

Once connected, the app builds an overlay link. Add that link to an OBS browser source.

Copy the link

In the app's OBS overlay link box, click Copy link. It contains your current settings.

Add a browser source

In OBS: Sources → ➕ → Browser.

Paste the link

Paste the copied link into the browser source's URL field.

Set the size

Set Width 1920 · Height 1080 (match your broadcast resolution). Click OK and a character stage appears over your screen.

Changed a setting? After changing characters, positions, points, etc., copy the link again and update the URL in your OBS browser source. When the app shows "Settings changed," that's your cue to re-copy.

05 Test it

Before going live, use the Test buttons in the app preview to confirm characters show up.

Turn on Show test on the OBS overlay too to see test events on the real OBS screen, not just the preview — a final check.

06 Customize characters

Use the built-in characters, or upload your own images for a personal character.

Settings can be backed up with Export / Import, handy for moving devices or sharing a setup.

07 Viewer points

The Blute +Plus points system turns viewer participation into a game.

Viewers use a participation link to check their points and rank and join in. Share it in your stream's about section or chat.

08 Free vs Plus

Core features are free forever. A more alive overlay and the viewer participation economy unlock with Blute +Plus ($4.99/mo).

09 Troubleshooting

The overlay doesn't show in OBS

Check that the browser source URL matches the link you copied, and that the size is 1920×1080. Still nothing? Right-click the source → Refresh to reload it.

Characters don't appear

First confirm characters show up with the app's Chat test. If they show in the preview but not in OBS, copy the link again and update the OBS URL.

I changed a setting but the stream didn't update

After changing settings, click Copy link again and update the OBS source URL. The app's "Settings changed" notice is the signal to refresh.

I cleared my browser cache and lost my settings

Viewer points data is safely stored on the server and is never lost. Cache clearing only affects non-economy settings, and reconnecting the same channel restores your saved settings from the server automatically.

I paid for Plus but don't see it

Don't pay again — email [email protected] and we'll restore it right away.
